Blue Lagoon Packing List – Everything You Need for a Smooth Spa Day!

I can tell you from experience. The WORST thing that could happen to you at the Blue Lagoon is sliding into that warm blue water…only to realize you forgot something. So you have to get out and decide if you want to struggle to squeeze into your pants that feel too tight because your skin is hot and sticky -or- throw on your robe and freeze to death as you make a mad dash to your car in the parking lot that is a solid ten minute walk away. Neither are ideal. So, that’s why I’ve created the ultimate Blue Lagoon packing list!
It’s complete with all the things you will need for your day at the Blue Lagoon – as well as what to leave in your hotel! Depending on your ticket tier, some items may be included in your ticket price! The three ticket levels, and packing list items that are included, are as follows:
- Comfort ($47 USD): Use of towel
- Premium ($66 USD): Use of towel, slippers, bathrobe
- Luxury ($528): Use of towel, slippers, bathrobe, complimentary Blue Lagoon skincare products
I’ll be sure to note what is and isn’t included throughout this post as well! So, without further ado, here is your new favorite Blue Lagoon packing list!

Swimsuit
Well, DUH, right? But just don’t forget it! If you are a more modest person, you are allowed to enter the pool with shorts/shirt as well. Just bring a swimsuit you’re comfortable in, I really don’t think it’s entirely necessary to buy a new one for one spa day. But if you WANT to, the most popular swimsuits to bring are usually red, white, or yellow because they POP against the blue water. Just a thought though.
Robe *not included in Comfort tier

And when I say robe, I mean WARM robe. The wind in Iceland is MERCILESS. You will also want a full-length robe, none of those cute lil lingerie robes. There are hanger spots right at the entrance to the pools, so you can practically wear it up to the edge of the water. Robes are included in the premium and luxury ticket tiers, so if you choose comfort, you will have to bring your own. However, if you don’t have a robe, or don’t feel like lugging it all the way to Iceland, you’re not out of luck. After the locker rooms, there is a mini lounge-type area before you step outside. There is actually an entrance into the warm water from INSIDE the lounge! So that’s one way to avoid bringing a robe without totally freezing!
Slippers *not included in Comfort tier

Honestly, ANY slippers will work. Just bring some from home that you already have, if you can. I would just recommend you bring sandals that you don’t mind getting a bit wet, shower sandals/flip flops would be perfect! You DO have to shower before entering the pools, after all, might as well get sandals that can take you from the shower to the pool edge! But if you don’t mind showering without shoes, (more power to ya I could never) then I saw a few people opting to bring memory foam slippers. But again, if you get the premium or luxury ticket, they’ll throw in flip flops for you so you won’t have to worry about it.
Waterproof Phone Case

THIS was what I forgot in the car during my visit. I was ALL THE WAY showered and in the water when I realized I had no device to take cute Snapchat pictures with silly cat ears. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF ME BEING THERE THEN?? So make sure you bring your waterproof phone case with you! This is a link to the exact one I have and it works great! I’ve never had any leaks and fogging/water spots are kept to a minimum! Or you could just be super careful and not drop your phone. But having a waterproof case is peak peace of mind.
Sunglasses
The sun reflecting off the water is incredibly blinding at times. So just bring along a pair of sunglasses. Trust me on this.
Headbands and/or Hair Ties

You…do not want to get your hair wet. IT’S A PAIN. The minerals in the water will make your hair beyond crusty and chalky. There is very good conditioner supplied free of charge in the locker rooms, but it’s just easier to avoid all together. Especially if you have curly or kinky hair. Plus, getting your hair out of your face will make putting on your face masks all the easier. I’ve included a link to some of my favorite headbands that are super cute, though they’re not sponsored nor do I have an affiliate. But just use whatever you have! As it turned out for me though, I had scheduled an in-water massage and my hair got soaked anyway. Whomp whomp. Worth it tho for that massage.
Sunscreen

It might be the first thing you think of, but TRUST ME, you’re going to need sunscreen. Especially if visiting in the summer, that sun exposure is no joke. And the UV rays are heightened while in the water! So I’d highly recommend using a waterproof sunscreen and reapply as needed. I have an entire post with my recommended melanin-friendly sunscreens (including ones that are reef-safe!). But for the sake of quickness, my favorites are currently: Black Girl Sunscreen, Sunbum, and Supergoop! They are all reef safe and Oxybenzone free!
Toiletries
Bring you toiletry bag with you. And deodorant, if you use it. These are the most commonly forgotten items. Do a quick checklist of your toiletry bag before you leave the hotel! At the very least, you’re going to want
- Deodorant
- Lotion/moisturizer
- Comb/Brush
- Skin care products
- Contact solution & contact case (I would recommend taking out your contacts, but it’s totally fine to go in the pool with them as long as you don’t dunk your head underwater something. But most people aren’t splashing around anyway.)
I’m not going to link a million products because, hopefully, you have these things already. BUT! I do have a blog post full of recommendations if you are looking into making some eco-friendly swaps.
Water Bottle

It is easy to dehydrate in geothermal water. VERY EASY. And while you get one free drink included in ALL tickets, the drinks are small and you only get one freebie. I mean, they’re delicious smoothies (or uh, alcoholic beverages if you choose), but I don’t think they are worth actively buying more to make sure you aren’t a raisin by the end of the day. So bring a water bottle! The tap water in Iceland is safe (and recommended) to drink, but the Blue Lagoon also has bottle refill stations. So at the very least, you can fill it up on your way out! My favorite travel bottle is the Bindl Bottle! It has a hidden compartment in the bottle which is great for storing keys/cards/etc!
Snacks
How do I put this nicely…well. The food at the Blue Lagoon is expensive. Even the snacks. So if you’re looking to stay on a budget, I would recommend packing some of your favorite snacks in your backpack to munch on if you stay around longer than two or so hours. That said, I did eat lunch at the Lava restaurant, and it was delicious. I also ate breakfast at the Blue Lagoon cafe…and it was incredibly expensive. So if you don’t mind the price, by all means forgo the snacks, but I’d recommend at least bringing a snack bar or some nuts along.
Things you DON’T Need to Bring

Now that we’ve gone over things you definitely DO need in your Blue Lagoon packing list, here are a few things you don’t.
Shampoo/Conditioner: All of the locker rooms have it complimentary. And trust me, you’re going to want to LOAD UPPP on the leave-in conditioner. I honestly feel like the conditioner is not the GREATEST for coarse hair, so if you plan on getting your curly/kinky hair wet, either leave the Blue Lagoon conditioner in and wash it out at your hotel, or bring an extra-moisturizing conditioner and clarifying shampoo with you. But you don’t NEED to. Just don’t leave the pool water dried and crusted in your hair.
Hair Dryer: Guess what. They are also in all of the locker rooms, complimentary!! And I would rank them above average! I have a Dyson hairdryer at home (lol), and while it obviously isn’t at that level, it was basically on par power-wise to normal home hairdryers, in my opinion. Much better than hotel hairdryers!
Lock: Andddd yes, locks are also provided on all lockers. But they work via your wristband and setting up a code. There are instructions in the locker rooms, but if you need help using it, just ask someone around you are one of the locker room staff people.
Towel: All the ticket tiers come with towel use. So unless you REALLLYYYYYY want your special lucky towel for good luck or something, you don’t need to take up extra space in your Blue Lagoon packing list bag for it.
Googles: You don’t need them. First, the water isn’t even deep enough to really swim in. I am 5’7″, and I could stand in every area of the pool – though there were areas where the water went up to my chin.
Blue Lagoon Packing List: Conclusion
Welp, that’s all I have for ya folks! Hopefully this list helps put you at ease when it comes to planning your Iceland trip! There’s a lot of people that feel like the Blue Lagoon is ‘superrrr touristy and totally skippable.’ And I don’t disagree that it is touristy. Because it is. But YOU are a tourist! Go enjoy a nice spa if you can afford it! I am personally very glad I went! I want to go back and try out the fancy Luxury ticket tier that gives access to the exclusive “Retreat Spa!”

This is great! I would have never thought to bring a headband! I might just braid up my hair for Iceland and call it a day!
YESS! Braid it and go!
Visiting the Blue Lagoon is on my bucket list so this packing list is helpful. I didn’t realize how pricey the admission tickets are for the visit! Thanks for the tip on bringing a water bottle to refill at the water stations. Glad to hear the tap water is drinkable.
Oh yeah, they can get pricey!! There are some alternative pools with facilities that are less expensive (I think one is called the “secret lagoon”) but I didn’t visit those
Your list of things to bring for Blue Lagoon are all sensible and practical. Nice head up for the depth of the water itself, though. I’ve always wondered how deep the water actually is and it’s nice to know that it’s not that deep.
oh yay!!! I’m glad you found it useful!
Great to know what to take in advance. The blue lagoon is definitely a bucket list experience. We really enjoyed it.
As did we! I think next time, I want to save up and try the exclusive resort spa experience!
Great advice on what yo take
Awesome! I’m glad you found it useful!
So incredibly useful!! I’ve never visited but it’s high on my bucket list and this article will definitely come in handy. Bookmarked!
Yayy! I hope you have a great visit when you eventually get there!
