QUIZ: 9 Types of Hikers – Which Painfully Accurate Hiking Stereotype Are You?
I am a participant in affiliate programs, so basically I earn a small commission if you use any of the affiliate links on this post - at no extra cost to you! Dope right?

Ohhh….hiking. One of the greatest pastimes in the outdoors. Gather up a couple friends, lace up your boots, refill your water bottles, and hit the trail. It’s all fun, in theory, until you realize Stacey talks to much, Jacolby is desperately trying to photograph a squirrel that keeps running away, Talia is going to fast, and Mike…well, Mike should have just stayed in the car. As it turns out, there are many types of hikers and they don’t always mesh too seemlessly.
Especially if we start factoring in zodiac signs, but that would take a whole extra blog post to even begin to dive into.
If you take nothing else away from this post, just know that the types of hikers you invite on your nice lil day trip out can make or break your experience. I’m not saying avoid your friends but uh….not every friend is suited for every activity. Ya dig?
To help you out a bit, I went ahead a created a fun lil bitty quiz to help you determine which types of hikers you fall under. After, force all of your potential hiking buddies to take the quiz to see what types of hikers they are and if they would be a good fit for the experience you want!

Disclaimer: this is purely for fun and probably totally has no TRUE reflection of what they would actually be like on a hike….uh…probably…but as usual, you should be taking everything I say with a grain of salt anyways.
Okay, enough dilly dally, let’s get into the types of hikers!

QUIZ: Types of Hikers
Before you head out on the trail with your friends, take this quiz to find out which types of hikers you all are and some potential…stressors you might encounter by exerting yourselves together!
What to do with the Results
Well, now that you’ve gotten the results, what do you do with this newfound knowledge?
NOTHING. IT WAS JUST A FUN QUIZ DONT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.
But also, maybe it’s worth putting deeper thought into the planning part so that everyone has a great time.

If you know one friend trash talks influencers all day…maybe don’t bring your influencer baddie friend with you on that one. If another friend has zero patience for slow hikers…okay, they might not be the best to invite when you’re doing a beginners hike with people new to hiking. It’s all about strategically planning your friend groups so everyone is happy.
And, most importantly, not mad at YOU. Be intentional with your invitations; not only does this apply to hiking, but choosing your travel squad in general. Regardless of the activity, people have different personalities. That’s not a bad thing at all, but it is something to keep in mind when planning a group activity.
Unless you like drama or whatever.
Then by all means, create chaos.
How Do I Convince Friends to Hike with Me???
Okay, so you made all of your friends take the quiz and you’ve figured out what types of hikers you’ll be dealing with – IN THEORY. But what if they’ve never hiked or don’t even like being outside at all?
Don’t worry, there are some pretty solid ways to trick your friends into doing anything (within reason). You just have to exploite–err, I mean, appeal to their interests.
Yes, hiking can be multifaceted. No, it doesn’t have to cost more money.
Most, if not all of the time, people are hesitant to hike because they don’t have anyone to go with. Someone’s gotta be the driving force, so if you just ask, that’s 80% of getting them to go with you already. In general…opt for good weather. Seeing rainclouds on the forecast is not going to push someone already on the fence to your side.
Also, if you’re like a really intense hiker, be mindful in picking a hike. Sure, a quick 30 min no incline trail might not be your preferred level of outdoor stimulation, but people need to work up to summitting mountains. Don’t scare your friends off before they even get a fair shot.

Emphasize that they don’t need to dash out to REI to buy “proper” hiking boots, poles, and a state of the art trekking backpack that doubles as a tiny home. Honestly – whatever they already have will work fine! If they DO want to buy something, I’d recommend maybe a hydration pack, as it is more convenient than a water bottle and can double as a small backpack for just the essentials.
If they’re stilllll not convinced, then make it into a themed event. Have everyone dress up and take lots of pictures. Thankfully, there are tons of long-lasting (and bold!) lipstick brands for hiking, so you can all pick one and then see which you like best. Host your book club on a hike. Heck, even pre-game on a hike…
….
….actually, better not do that last one…but you get what I mean.
Or, if you’re like me, just beg and make up an excuse like you need to do it for a travel article or blog post. Works like a charm.
Types of Hikers: Conclusion

Welp, that’s all I got for you today! I know, I know, not a lot, but hey, somedays that’s the best you can do haha. At the very least, I hope you’ve enjoyed this fun lil quiz about all the different types of hikers that may be hiding in your friend group! But, more importantly, I hope that you and your friends are able to enjoy nature, even in the smallest of capacities. It would be pretty dope if a few of them found hiking to be one of their new favorite hobbies, but even if they never do it again – at least they tried!
If that’s good enough for the engineers at Guano Point, then it’s good enough for me.
Okay, don’t let me and my lil blog posts keep you. Go on, grab ya friends and send them this quiz! Drop in the comments below which types of hikers you and your friends are! Then like…go hike!
