Every year for my anniversary in January, my partner and I try to visit a more tropical “relaxing” vacation. Mostly because my partner likes to lounge and I spend the rest of the year dragging them around the world with jam-packed itineraries. But also partially because if I didn’t intentionally visit these kinds of destinations, I’d probably never prioritize visiting them. So for 2026, we went to Belize! Unfortunately…our vacation got rained out hahah. But that means we did spend a lot of time in the cafes in San Pedro, Belize!

And when I say rained out, I mean practically everything we wanted to do was dampened (literally) by the weather. We stayed at Mahogany Bay by Hilton since I needed to use my Hilton resort credit and they have their own private beach…only the waves were too rocky to transport us there. Similarly to all the other water activities that San Pedro and the neighboring cayes are known for. Even the beaches on the island were dreary and gloomy.

So to pass the time during our 5 days in San Pedro, and to wait out the downpours that happened between exploring, we dipped into a lot of the local cafes for a drink and to chat in warm dry shelter. We definitely went to more than 5 cafes in San Pedro, Belize, I think the number is somewhere 10-12 lol, so here are my top recommendations since…hopefully it won’t be as rainy on your trip!

Best Cafes in San Pedro Belize

As I said before, I went to…a lot of cafes in San Pedro, Belize bahaha. But on that note, I also gotta give it up to the island for having SO MANY locally owned cafes! They almost have a higher cafe density than Portland, Oregon! It was really amazing to see and most of the cafes had a steady stream of customers, both tourists and residents!

That said, I also visited a few quieter cafes that were amazing, so if you do want a quieter place to work, I got you covered there too! So without further ado:

Rum+Bean

  • Address: V2X9+F76, Mahogany Bay Village, San Pedro, Belize
  • Hours: 6am-6pm daily

As I was staying at Mahogany Bay Village, naturally we checked out the coffee shop onsite. The actually boasted at being the #1 cafes in San Pedro, Belize according to TripAdvisor. I didn’t check their claims, but I was curious if it lived up to the title.

And woah. It…did???

It is such a cute coffee shop inside and they make a MEAN hot beverage. Also, lesser praised but just as amazing – their smoothies! They also have protein smoothies for a pre/post workout treat. I really appreciated that such a great cafe existed onsite since some days it was too stormy to want to venture out to town. And good news if you aren’t staying at the property, you can still visit the coffee shop!

Stories Coffee Shop

  • Address: Laguna Drive, Boca del Rio Drive, San Pedro, Belize
  • Hours: 7am-7pm daily

If you’re looking to get some work done, Stories is the SPOT! They have a good sized parking area in front, so it’s easy to park your golf cart and hop out (or just hop out of a rideshare). It’s a very spacious cafe with a range of seating options (chairs, couches, lounges) and various table sizes if you need to spread out your work.

This cafe was one of the quieter ones, so even if you need a calming spot to read, go here! Plus, they have a FULL menu. Both of food (like actual meals) and beverages. Teas, coffees, juices, smoothies, lemonades, hot chocolate, Italian soda. It’s truly a one stop shop. What really stood out for me and made this one of the most unique cafes in San Pedro, Belize are their Arabic desserts!

And yes, they’re GEWD.

Charmaine’s Cafe and Dessert Shop

  • Address: corner of Angel and Pelican (Upstairs* no elevator?), Pelican St, San Pedro, Belize
  • Hours: 8am-8pm

The NICEST folks, hands down. I love Charmaine’s and if I live in San Pedro, I’m pretty sure this would be my go-to. The only caveat, unfortunately, is that it is upstairs. I didn’t see an elevator, maybe there is one?? But I just wanted to point that out.

For the pros, it’s everything else. Since it is upstairs, you are shielded from the street level noise while still be able to have an open (covered!!!) balcony experience. Or you can sit on the interior that has fun colorful designs and cozy decor. It also has the best food of all the cafes in San Pedro, Belize. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert. YES.

They also had the best tea blends I’ve seen on the island. So if you’re a tea drinker, highly recommend Charmaine’s!

Lavish Habit Café

  • Address: Barrier Reef Dr, San Pedro, Belize
  • Hours: 7:30am-5pm, closed Sunday

Lavish Habit Cafe is one of the smaller cafes on this list (only bigger than Rum+Bean), but it feels like a very familiar coffee shop in that’s it’s modern, has the contemporary favorites we all crave, and feels cool. You know what I mean?

The rain had REALLY started to pour down when we ducked in for shelter here, along with everyone else inside haha, so while almost all the tables were taken, it didn’t feel cramped which was really nice. I saw a few people working from their laptops on the larger tables too. Here, I opted for a matcha latte and no joke, I don’t even like matcha and this was probably the best one I’ve ever had.

Probably because it was very sweet haha.

So if you like the more bitter earth matcha flavor, maybe stick with coffee haha. But for everyone else, WE FOUND GOLD!!!!!

Royal Brew Cafe Lounge

  • Address: Corner laguna drive, Dolphin Street, Belize
  • Hours: 8am-11pm, 12am Friday and Saturday, 11:30 Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday

And finally, this i one of the cafes in San Pedro, Belize that lowkey feels like a nightclub lounge. Probably because…it is. BAHAHAHA. That said, they serve breakfast (and caffeinated drinks!) all day, and the “party” atmosphere doesn’t really kick up until after 8pm or so. You get the best of both (?) worlds with Royal Brew!

I also want to point out that they probably have the second best food of all these cafes in San Pedro, Belize, so I also recommend going for breakfast/brunch. This is one of the larger cafes, so perfect for big groups or if you want your space. It’s not too busy during the in-between-meal hours either.

Conclusion

So those were my 5 favorite cafes in San Pedro, Belize that I went to during my very rainy beach vacation hahah. Again, there’s a LOT more on the island that I didn’t get to, but from my experience this is a great starting point. There was only one cafe that I didn’t like, but since I only went once an maybe it was an off day, I’m not going to put them on blast here.
