Ohhh Montana. I’m not gonna lie, my expectations in terms of food were…very low. Non-existent even. BUT, I was pleasantly proven wrong in practically every city I visited. Bozeman especially had the highest concentration of swoon-worthy spots to eat, so much so that I decided to put together this list of the best restaurants in Bozeman to help out other travelers headed to the city!
Who knew Bozeman would turn out to be a foodie paradise??
That said, imma throw this little disclaimer out there. I am not a food blogger. I take terrible food pictures, and though I’ve been trying reallyyyy hard to improve, they still…don’t look all that great. SO BE NICE OKAY IM TRYING.
Grab your utensils and pop open the top button of your jeans – it’s about to get tasty in here.

Breakfast/Brunch

Some would say it’s the most important meal of the day, crucial for fueling up and starting on the right foot or whatever. If you are a morning person when you travel, excited to see everything and maximize your daylight hours, I’m sure getting a delicious breakfast is one of your favorite morning activities. Or…if you’re like me and sleep in until 11:48am on vacations, then you can try to get away with brunch. Either way, you’re going to want to wake up and smell these best restaurants in Bozeman for breakfast!
Jam!
Ask ANY local for breakfast suggestions, and they’re going to send you straight to Jam! The exclamation point is actually included in their name, but also yes it’s just that exciting. Also known as “Jam on Main,” you’ll either want to wake up early to get a table, or be ready to put your name on a waitlist later on. Luckily, it is right in the middle of the downtown area with plenty of shops to check out while you wait. They have both sweet and savory breakfast options, but if you could only pick one, I’d say go for the benedict with a side of bacon.
For some reason, all of the bacon in Montana was absolutely delicious. Must be the fresh air and open grazing they have going on there.

Nova Cafe
Nova Cafe, though it didn’t pop up as high on a google search, was a breakfast spot recommended by a local. It was actually referred to as “one of the best restaurants in Bozeman” by the woman who ran the art gallery on Main street. AND SHE WAS RIGHT.
Nova Cafe is very low-key (which was dope) so if Jam! has too long of a wait, you can head here for a table. The menu includes all the staples, plus a really great scramble and hash bowl. I’d also recommend getting a drink or juice here, they were WILDLY fantastic!
Farmer’s Daughters – mention Wynne
I actually didn’t personally visit Farmer’s Daughters during my trip, but my friend Wynee – from Wynee’s World – took a trip to Bozeman like, two weeks after me and said Farmer’s Daughters was one of the best restaurants in Bozeman.
And considering she’s like, a famous travel and food blogger – I’D TAKE HER WORD ON IT. Their avocado toast is their most raved menu item, but they have great options if you’re looking for light or healthy options. Plus, like many of the best restaurants in Bozeman, they are very affordable!
Lunch

Lunch is personally my favorite meal of the day. Mostly because I sleep through breakfast and I’m always tired and unmotivated by the time dinner rolls around. But lunch? Lunch is supreme. Thankfully, the best restaurants in Bozeman cover the lunch hour as well, with plenty of cuisine options.
La Tinga Mexican Restaurant
If you’re looking for Mexican food, La Tinga is one of the best restaurants in Bozeman, and at an affordable price. Although I’m a carne asada kinda girl (as noted in my Tacos in Hood River post), La Tinga is actually known in Bozeman for their fish tacos!
I mean, I get it, the water is extremely fresh in Montana, I’m not surprised the fish is good too! Plus, all of staff and owners are extremely friendly and heart-warming. It’s a great local place that will keep you energized throughout the day.
Lot G Café
Another reason I love lunch restaurants is because it’s the perfect time of day to get a light healthy entrée or bowl. And for that, you’ll want to head to Lot G Cafe. It might feel a little out of the way (when compared to most other restaurants that are located around Main street), but trust me, the journey is worth it.
Their ingredients are locally and regionally sourced, and you can taste it in their menu! Although I was in the mood for a sandwich (which was great btw), most people label them as one of the best restaurants in Bozeman for their delicious and healthy bowls.
Hashi

Hashi is a little Asian food truck serving up delicious modern street food. I believe they are only open late-Spring through Fall, and their menu changes often, so I can’t give specific recommendations, but I loveddd the bao I ordered. The staff were super nice and their menu may be small, but they cook the CRAP out of it!
Backcountry Burger Bar
You can’t talk about lunch without throwing in a good ol’ burger! And the of course one of the best restaurants in Bozeman for a burger is Backcountry Burger Bar. Starting off, their burgers have unique and exciting flavors, including a great plant-based burger for all my veggie friends.
On top of that, they have a delicious range of appetizers, customizable mac-and-cheese (I KNOW right??), and even poutine! I’m personally not a drinker of beer, but I saw a lot of people coming in just for a few rounds of their pints!
Dinner

And last, but not least, you gotta eat dinner as well! I was only in Bozeman for a few days, so I wasn’t able to try EVERYYYY food place. But I did manage to find some of the best restaurants in Bozeman for dinner just by chance (since I usually only research desserts when I travel lol).
Roost Fried Chicken
Who loves fried chicken??? KAY LOVES FRIED CHICKEN. And this is one of the best restaurants in Bozeman serving it! At this family-owned restaurant, they take Southern comfort and bring it to the Northwest. Obviously, their star of the menu is their fried chicken, so much so that it earned them a place on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives!
That said, they also have a few other great menu items as well. Such as greens, grits, and – if you’re partial to it – fried okra. For fun though, you should get the chicken on a stick. Then grab one of their pies on the way out (trust me, once you smell it, you won’t be able to say no anyway).

Blackbird
I actually stumbled upon this restaurant while I was just strolling down Main street and decided to pop in because I was starving.
The wait was thirty minutes *cry emoji*
So I would recommend making reservations in advance or at least not stroll in at prime dinner time when you’re starving because there will be a wait. I’m a pretty boring person, so I just got spaghetti and meatballs, but my boyfriend’s dish (which I ate a considerable amount of), was a chicken dish and it was DELICIOUS. They offer a wine pairing too! I don’t drink wine, but I’m sure it’s great.
Hands down, one of the best restaurants in Bozeman!
Urban Kitchen
Another more upscale-type dinner restaurant in terms of menu, but with a more casual atmosphere than Blackbird. If you can, PLEASEEE get the pork belly starter. I’m still thinking about it. I also got their carbonara and my entire body thanked me.
Whenever I’m in Bozeman again, I definitely want to try their Chef’s Table because their chefs seem, well, frankly awesome. They have tables of varying sizes so they can accommodate pretty much any party size, but I would recommend making reservations if possible!
Desserts & Snacks

Ah yesss my favorite section. If you’re new to my blog – hi, I’m Kay. I’m addicted to sweets. So obviously I couldn’t wrap up this list of best restaurants in Bozeman without hitting up the desserts! Again, I’m pretty boring and I don’t like a lot of flavors, but if they can get vanilla right, then you know their flavors must be good too!
Sweet Peaks Ice Cream
GET THEIR HUCKLEBERRY ICE CREAM.
THAT’S IT.
THAT’S ALL I HAVE TO SAY. Genuine Ice Cream Co. is another great ice cream spot as well!

Granny’s Gourmet Donuts
Granny’s Gourmet Donuts is literally…one of the busiest spots in the whole city, dessert or not. So word to the wise, try to get there early to avoid both the long lines AND the possibility of them selling out.
If you’re a tea person, then you’ll appreciate pairing one of their delicious donuts and sitting down with a cup of tea and having a classic afternoon cuppa moment. Another thing to note, you’ll want to bring cash because they don’t take card!
The Candy Jar
I literally found this place because my sugar intake was low and I literally needed candy or I would implode. The little shop is super cute and has self-serve candy. If Willy Wonka and a buffet had a baby, it would be the Candy Jar. Plus, they have super cute “mega” shakes that are EXTEMELY instagrammable. I appreciated everything about this place from their candy selection to their super friendly staff!
La Chatelaine Chocolat Co
Okay, so I don’t even actually like chocolate, so I can’t tell you about the taste factor of this place, but it has excellent ratings so I thought some of you chocolate lovers might be interested. I did visit though, and saw that they arrange trips to France! So uh, if you’re a Montana local, it might be a fun trip! Even if you don’t consider chocolate a food group, the ratings alone list this as one of the best restaurants in Bozeman – dessert wise!
Dranks

I don’t actually have much to say here, mostly because I don’t…drink, BUT that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to see in town. The best restaurants in Bozeman also include cafes, right? So although you’ll have to check somewhere else for the hard stuff, I’ll pop some of my favorite cafes below! That said, it seems like all of them are pretty great, so you probably can’t go wrong with any of the cafe spots in town.
- Treeline Coffee Roasters
- Rockford Coffee Roasters
- Zocalo
- Kombucha Bar
The Best Restaurants in Bozeman: Conclusion
A’ight, well until I finish my Bozeman weekend travel guide, I hope this list of best restaurants in Bozeman will serve you well.
Heh. No pun intended.
I was pleasantly surprised with how good the food was in Bozeman, and the variety of restaurants as well. Especially the amount of high-er end eateries; you really don’t see that in every small college town. Also, this list is not the end all be all. I only spent a few days – there’s no way I could’ve tasted EVERY restaurant.
So if you see one of your favs missing from this list of best restaurants in Bozeman, leave them in the comments below!
