If there is ONE THING you need to know about me, it’s that I love sugar. It is prevalent in so many aspects of my life, if you pay attention close enough, the fact might even begin to get a little concerning. But like, whatever don’t worry I’m fine. Or whatever. ANYWAYS, after being stood up on a friend-date (which was completely my fault because I showed up 24 hours early), I was already looking incredibly cute so what better occasion to treat myself to a day on the town. To some, especially in Oregon, that might mean grabbing a beer. But for me, that meant heading to some of the best juice bars in Portland.

And by some, I actually mean like twenty.

Yeah, I went to….a lot of juice bars in Portland in one day.

Have you SEEN my blog posts on cafes? I don’t do anything in moderation.

In any case, prior to that particular day, I had only been to a handful of juice bars in Portland, and mainly the popular local chains. I don’t need to name no names, but honestly they weren’t doing it for me. I’m a Southern California gal. I KNOW MY JUICE OKAY?!?! But just as things went when I was trying to find good Mexican restaurants in Portland or Black owned restaurants in Portland – as soon as I intentionally sought out to find the juice bars in Portland that were a little less pushed to the front, so to speak, is when I started to find the real quality places.

And as a local Portland blogger, it’s my obligation to share my findings with all of you!

Yanno, if you’re into juicing.

What Makes a Good Juice?

One thing I want to emphasize before we get started is that these are MY personal favorite juice bars in Portland. I’m not saying that those not listed here are bad (at least I’m not explicitly saying it lol), but more so focusing on places that I personally recommend and visit fairly frequently. As in, if I had an out-of-town visitor, I would take them to these places because I am confident they would enjoy their experience.

gif of a woman in a chair saying "juice makes me happy. yes"

So aside from just “having juice,” what makes them “good” ? Taste is subjective, yes. BUT ALSOOOOO there’s a level of finesse that differentiates just sticking plants in a juicer vs formulating a blend of complimentary flavors that is both delightfully surprising AND tasty to the tongue. Some people don’t care about taste as long as they get their 3-5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. There’s nothing wrong with that! But I am not one of those people.

For this list of my favorite juice bars in Portland, I was looking for establishments that had pleasant tasting drinks, but also with an exciting menu. I’m not driving all the way across town for basic carrot juice, okay? I also appreciate a nice atmosphere, great customer support and staff knowledge of the menu, and overall good vibes. Establishments that also give back to their community also makes a huge impact on not only me as a customer, but bettering Portland.

Bonus points for free parking.

With my elevated palette for juice, I recognize that their are two very distinct family of juices: ones that focus on the health aspect of juice-based beverages, and ones that focus on exciting flavors. Their tastes usually reflect this distinction. Personally, I like both, but I gravitate towards sweeter juices cuz I hate vegetables. HOWEVER, I recognize that both families of juices are valid. But, if you have a strong preference, I’ve separated out my favorite juice bars in Portland by whether they swing more on the healthy juice side, or the sweet juice side.

Don’t get me wrong, most of those listed have options for both, so I separated based on what I feel is their strongest points and what I usually order from them.

Pour One Out for da Homies

hand holding up to-go cup with the label "rose and lincoln"

I lied – one more thing before we get started. Over the past year, one of my favorite juice bars in Portland actually closed their doors: Rose + Lincoln. It was actually my first stop on my self-date! So…you’ll see a lot of pictures of me with their juice in some of the other pictures hahaha.

The owner, Kimiko, is such an incredible force in Portland’s small-business community and an incredible human all around. While Kimiko still occassionally makes small batch juice at Cooperativa (more on that later), the brick and mortar Rose + Lincoln is officially closed.

On a similar but not the same note – Pulse and Protein is not CLOSED-closed, but their brick and mortar is for the next few months (winter 2021). They are operating out of the SwitchUp kitchen (next door) for the time being. Please go support them there until they are back open-open!

I know these were a lot of folks ‘go-to, including me, so wanted to give these juice bars in Portland their props and business updates.

Luckilyyyyyyy – you’ll find a lot more favorite juice bars in Portland by the time you’re done with this list!

Healthy Juice Bars in Portland

I’m going to start off with the healthy juice bars in Portland – AND GET THEM OUT THE WAY!! Kidding hahah. No seriously, I specifically chose these spots because they make healthy juices and smoothies that actually taste good with some depth to their flavors. Coming from someone who individually picks peas out of my fried rice, that says a lot. These “healthy” juice bars in Portland also have a menu that is more interesting than just spicy shots of ginger and watery plant soup in a glass.

Root Whole Body/Blossoming Lotus Cafe

two smoothies on the edge of a table in an empty cafe with a lot of natural light

So the name of the little cafe is actually Blossoming Lotus Cafe, but it is located within the Root Whole Body yoga studio. I didn’t go for a yoga class, but honestly the juice alone made me want to give group yoga a go. There is usually a good amount of parking available (which is wild cuz the other side of the street is always PACKED), but it isn’t free. That’s okay though, it only goes up from here!

My favorite thing about this spot is their menu – truly, it’s a fun ride. Even their shots are unique. Where else can you get a shot with an orange wedge chaser??? I LOVE IT. Their smoothies are also on the healthier side, with ingredients like turmeric, dates, and non-dairy milks. And, not specific to juice, you can also chill out with a pot of tea. It’s all around a great time. It definitely made me want to check out more yoga studios in case they were also hiding more of the best juice bars in Portland behind their stretch block racks.

Juice Mamey

a hand with black fingernails holding up a glass container of juice with the label "drink mamey." behind is a plant wall with the neon sign that says "drink ya juice"

While Juice Mamey is located on the busy Killingsworth St, there is a lot of free parking on the side streets, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a spot. The space is so beautiful with all of their plants and health goods from other local businesses, you seriously won’t want to leave. And you KNOW I’m a sucker for a good neon sign. Their hours are a bit more limited than a few other juice bars in Portland, Thursday through Sunday, so just keep that in mind. If possible, I’d recommend ordering in advance for pickup one of those days, because by Sunday they might be sold out of a lot of their on-hand juices.

And SPEAKING of their juices – the fact that they run out is a testament to how FRESH they keep their inventory. Juice Mamey is one of those on the list with an equal amount of “taste good” and “feel good” options, but I chose to put them in the healthy list because their feel good menu is incredible. They also incorporate a lot of Sea Moss Gel (from local business The Hussle Way!) which you won’t find everywhere. For those looking for juice cleanses, this is the place to go!

Plussss, side note, it’s literally across the street from Green Muse, one of the best dispensaries in Portland. Yanno, if you’re lookin…

Sip

Forgive me, I drank this one so fast I didn’t take a picture hahah. But I’ll add one in as soon as I go back.

Anyways, Sip stands for: Strong. Independent. Powerful. Sip is an all inclusive health and fitness boutique, where you can pick up workout equipment, fitness wear, sea moss products, and of course smoothies, teas, and juices! I first picked up their products (their sea moss) from a booth at a market, so I was ecstatic for the grand opening of their brick and mortar earlier this year. Definitelyyyy pick up their sea moss infused juice. Just do it.

Since they are located on Martin Luther King Blvd, street parking can be busy, but it’s free so that’s always a plus! And it’s near a lot of great restaurants and businesses, so once you find a good parking spot, make a day of it and stroll around!

Sip

Buuuuut, don’t be confused by equally tasty juices from Sip.

Yeah okay, it’s the same name, BUT this one is a food truck and owned by someone completely different. They are located outside of an organic market, with lots of free street parking, so they’re a great option to pick up while you cruise the market for even more fresh produce. This Sip is probably what most residents think of when they’re looking for juice bars in Portland, and you definitely get that “local” vibe when you drop in.

They do have a handful of fruit smoothies, but they really shine when it comes to green smoothies, juices, and shots, which make up most of their menu. Especially for us cold bloods, one cool thing on their menu are their steamed juice elixirs. My personal favorite is the flu slayer.

Eatin’ Alive

I actually found Eatin’ Alive when I was looking for a quick lunch, and their healthy plant-based and gluten free bowls are probably what they’re most known for around the Kenton neighborhood. BUT! They have juice too, and even though they’re newer on the scene, they’ve definitely earned their spot among the best juice bars in Portland! I appreciate that their juices are all blends and not just one note vegetable drinks, so a lot of them feel like smoothies. And, on that same note, their smoothies are a lot lighter and thinner than what you might expect, so you can still have a smoothie flavor but with the “feel good” aspect of a juice.

It’s located in the Kenton neighborhood, which has free street parking and usually plenty of it! I honestly don’t frequent the area a lot, just because it’s far away from me currently. But when I used to have fitness classes there, I noticed a lot of business revitalization happening, and I believe Eatin’ Alive is one of the newer ones to the scene. I went for a smoothie a few months ago and I definitely see more restaurants and cafes, so make sure to take a stroll while you’re in the area!

Sweet Juice Bars in Portland

AWWWW YES, the sweet juices. Now, this isn’t to say that I like these next juice bars in Portland more…but if you don’t like “healthy” tasting juices, these will probably be more up your alley. I like ’em all, frankly, but I get it because I usually fall into the latter of the juice enthusiast categories too hahah. I also want to say that these aren’t inherently “less healthy” either; again, most of these juice bars in Portland have BOTH. But for these next few, their sweeter menu items are truly top notch!

Sula Juicery

four different tall containers of juice, and one small one, all displayed on a booth table

So full disclaimer, I’ve actually never been to their brick and mortar. I’ve had their drinks at TONS of markets and even stocked at other restaurants (shoutout to It’s Plant Based Papi!!), but the few times I’ve tried to stop buy their physical location, they’ve been closed. Not sure if the storefront is open just seasonally, but you can still pre-order and whatnot online.

Anyways, back to their juice. Y’all, these lemonadesssss lemme tell yaaaa. They go down SMOOTH. I can drink an entire bottle in literally one gulp. Like I don’t even need to come up for air, they’re that good. I know “lemonades” and whatnot doesn’t make Sula the most conventional of juice bars in Portland, but they’re essential to the community. They have amazing ingredients packed in each one, and even their shots and green juice taste incredible! They’re perfect for on the go refreshers too!

Canteen

a hand holding up a glass filled with smoothie juice. a banana slice is on the rim for decoration

I would say Canteen is one of the “coolest” juice bars in Portland. Like it just FEELS cool. It’s like a juice bar, but with a vibe of a cafe.

If that makes sense.

It probably doesn’t, but anyways.

There’s lots of free street parking, though not tooooo much so if possible I’d recommend going for lunch or earlier as there’s less street traffic. However, I went right before closing (around 3:30pm) and I was able to find a spot easily so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. They have a surprising variety of drinks, and as you can guess from being in the sweets category, I’d recommend grabbing one of their smoothies.

And, if you didn’t know, medicinal mushrooms (yanno, the psychedelic ones) are legal in Oregon, and you can LITERALLY get a hot shroom concoction right here. But as always – juice responsibly.

Happy Day Juice Co.

hand holding up a smoothie in a plastic cup with the label "happy day"

I absolutely love Happy Day Juice Co with all of my heart, but I usually order their acai bowls! Seriously, they have THE best acai bowls in Portland. And I say that with my entire chest. I also love them to death because I was running late in traffic and I was going to arrive two minutes after they closed, but I wrote in my little online order that I was running behind AND THEY WAITED AT THE DOOR FOR ME. I mean, obviously don’t intentionally do that to them, but they are super kind, understanding, and compassionate as a company. And I’ll never forget that. Thank you.

But onto their juices.

After what…like MONTHS of me going there solely for their bowls, I finally tried a juice and – no surprise, it was also bomb. I’m a ride or die for their strawberry fields, but they’ve got a lot of good ones. Located on popular Fremont St, the street parking is a little busy, but it’s free. And you’ll have a ton of shops to explore while you drink yo drank.

The Joynt

a hand holding up a smoothie cup with the label "the joynt"

If you’ve read my post on best dispensaries in Portland (seriously, go read it), then you know my love for The Joynt. Their drinks taste ridiculousss, and to top it off, you can add a CBD shot to any of them! I first went maybeee a few weeks after their opening, and even then I was blown away by their menu options and even the extra goodies they had for sale. I literally got a text a week or two ago that they’ve gone through a mini rebrand and as a member of their loyalty program, they gave me $10 my next purchase!!!

They are DOING ITTTT and I couldn’t be more happy for them. Along with a fresh new look, I see they have bottled juices now, as well as froyo bowls, so I’m ready to spend my lil holiday visa gift card! There’s tons of free street parking, the space is super fresh (with a really hot playlist I might add), and it just feels real down-to-Earth. Highly highly recommend!!

Tiny Moreso

a hand holding up a mason jar with the label "be love and tax the rich - tiny moreso"

I’ll be honesttt Tiny Moreso doesn’t have my favorite parking in this list of best juice bars in Portland. It’s on a fairly busy street and there’s I think two or three dedicated spots right in front, but I feel like if you go during normal hours, they might be hard to snag. Luckily, I went right before closing so parking wasn’t an issue. And it’s free, so I can’t complain too much. But the space itself is super cute and right next to a community movement center (yoga, martial arts) and a small Caribbean spice store – aptly named Caribbean Spice.

Back to the drink! Y’all, these smoothies are to die for. But I’m not surprised they know their way around some produce. I’d go as far as to say Tiny Moreso is one of the best vegan restaurants in Portland. And it’s PORTLAND. There’s a lot of vegan restaurants. The fact that they also have juices is just the cherry on top…no pun intended. They’ve even got carbonated juices for those who like a little bubbly.

Best Friend

a hand holding a plastic cup filled with juice. in the background are blurry tree leaves

And last but certainly not least, we have Best Friend!! As far as juice bars in Portland, I feel like they’re more known for their healthier tasting juices than their smoothies. BUT – I personally order their smoothies hahah. That said, I specifically only get the Jerry Berry one because I don’t like chocolate or peanut butter, but if you do, then these are great options for you. Especially if you like a little extra protein in your drink!

They also have a good amount of specialty drinks, which can be ordered hot or iced/smoothie blended. There’s always plenty of parking, and sometimes you might get the fun surprise of a sidewalk pop-up! When I was there, a local farmer had a booth set up with all of her produce goodies!

Other Beverages

WOOO okay, so that basicallyyyy sums up my favorite juice bars in Portland. But, that doesn’t mean juices that don’t have storefronts aren’t just as amazing! There are a few that I’d like the shoutout, so be sure to keep your eye out for them in local markets and grocery stores – and be sure to follow them on Instagram to catch their next pop up!
