Summertime has rolled around, and that means long days, warm nights, and lots of lounging. And lounging creates the perfect opportunity to catch up on reading! I’ve created the perfect summer reading list 2018! These books are light, humorous, and hard to put down! Plus, they easily fit in your beach bag!

Get ready to find your summer reading fling.

 

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

HANDS DOWN THIS HAS TO BE THE FIRST BOOK YOU READ OF THE SUMMER!! If you haven’t heard of this book, here’s the basic synopsis. Rachel and Nick are dating. Nick gets a wedding invitation from his childhood friend in Singapore. Nick asks Rachel to be his plus 1 to the wedding. But Nick fails to mention that his family -and everyone else -IS CRAZY RICH. This book offers a fantastically fabulous look into the life of the rich and popular, with plenty of jokes and plot twists. I will admit, it didn’t hook me from the start. The book introduces a lot of characters at once, but stick with it. It’s worth it! Plus, you gotta read it before the movie comes out!

When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger

Is there anyone else absolutely obsessed with Desperate Housewives?? This book is the perfect match. From the same amazing author that brought the world The Devil Wears Prada, this work of art is centered around a small suburb in Connecticut. In fact, everyone’s favorite assistant from The Devil Wears Prada, Emily Charlton, is the starring character! The book is a downright hilarious chick lit, with surprising footnotes of warm female solidarity. And of course, catty gossip. It’s a solid one! Not as amazing as The Devil Wears Prada – but I mean, come on. Can anything be that good?

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon

I NEVER KNEW ALL MY LIFE WAS MISSING WAS AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE ROM-COM. Okay, now get this. The main character, Dimple, is your average everyday young woman who enjoys coding and all things web development-y. After her acceptance into Stanford, her parents surprise her by agreeing to let her attend a super nerdy convention in San Francisco. Her parents are usually always nagging her about finding a husband or something, so why in the world would they let her….oh…they set her up. When Dimple Met Rishi is a super light romance that still touches on topics such as identity and diversity.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon

This book is SO STRANGE. IN A GOOD WAY. Let me explain. The entire book revolves around a boy with autism who takes on the responsibility of solving the murder mystery of a neighborhood dog. If you like abstract books, you’re gonna love it (which I do!). If you don’t…well, I’d say you should still give it a try! It is funny AND smart, a feat achievable by only a few special authors. More importantly, it’s a great discussion piece. HOW CAN A SIMPLE BOOK BE SO COMPLEX AT THE SAME TIME?!

Tinder Nightmares by Elan Gale

Have you ever used a dating app before? THEN YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK. If you haven’t used a dating app before…STILL GET THIS BOOK. Rather than an actual story, Tinder Nightmares is a collection of hilarious, awkward, embarrassing, uncomfortable, creepy, and downright cringe worthy Tinder experiences. I personally have never used Tinder, but I was laughing so hard in the middle of the coffee shop that the barista thought I was going to keel over. That said, there’s not really any short stories or anything, just small snippets and messages, which was a tad disappointing to me, but still fun nonetheless!

Wait, whaaaaat, who put my book on this list? Oh, WELL IF YOU INSIST I GUESS I CAN TALK ABOUT IT. High school senior Ricky is feeling…well…dissatisfied with his life, to put it simply. He can’t seem to focus in school, his friends are irritating, and his parents…well, how many teenagers can tolerate their parents longer than a few minutes anyway? Just when life seemed too boring to escape, Ricky meets Hana. AN EVEN MORE BORING PERSON. But with her help, Ricky stumbles into an Alice in Wonderland hole to battle old scars, new addictions, and ultimately the real reason for his restlessness.
